I’ve always wanted to learn piano, even though I can’t play yet. Our elderly neighbour gifted us her piano shortly before she passed away, so it holds a lot of sentimental value. I decided to give it a proper tune-up and called Ruttle Piano Works.
David was very polite and efficient over the phone, got everything scheduled quickly. Michael came over for the tuning and was all worth it. He mentioned that these days, piano technicians don’t even need to play anymore because of tuning software. Fair enough. But after he finished tuning, he casually sat down… and played Chopin. I nearly fell off the couch in the next room! 😄
He was so humble about it too — said he plays “just a little.” Yeah, right. It sounded like a private concert in my living room.
Michael also kindly shared some info about the piano itself — turns out it’s a good beginner instrument, but if I decide to play seriously one day, I might want to consider upgrading. He didn’t try to upsell anything — just offered genuine, helpful advice.
All in all, I highly recommend them. Friendly, skilled, professional — and if you’re lucky, you might even get a Chopin encore with your tuning!

Took time to help me understand what was going wrong with my piano, and why it needed more than just a tuning. The regulation took a full day, and its easy to see why with all those parts to be adjusted. Its like turning back the clock-- my piano now plays like it did when it was new. Excellent work adding a Pianodisc player system to our Steinway baby grand. Its very easy to control (using an ipad) and they keep adding new songs. Really a great choice if you or your kids are not playing as much but you still want to hear live piano music in your home.

Five star piano restoration service. If you are located elsewhere in Canada or the USA they will arrange for transport. They helped me select a finish (satin walnut) and created a one-of-a-kind matching bench using a special silk fabric that gets me many compliments! The restored piano and bench were carefully transported back by their driver. They also put us in touch with a trusted local piano technician in Vancouver who is now looking after the tuning and maintenance of the pianodisc player system.

Unlike many technicians who only apprenticed, Mike went through a formal training program as well. His tunings are simply better than others I've had. He is not afraid to tell you about other things that need to be worked on in order to get your piano into the best condition. Mike will give your piano the real velvet glove treatment! He has a keen ear and has been formally trained in contrast to the many apprenticed tuners in Calgary. Mike tuned my piano for the first time after a move and was very courteous and friendly. The action section (grand piano) needed some repairs and regulation so he brought it back to his workshop and returned the following week with everything in pristine condition.

Worked within my schedule to set-up an appointment. The inspection (post-move) and tuning went very smoothly. There was a small chip in the polyester finish caused by movers. Luckily he is experienced with finish repair and has worked with the moving company before (Atlas Van Lines) to fulfill insurance claims for moving damages.

Our piano sound beautiful after Mike's tuning. Happily answered our questions and also provided a recommendation for a piano humidifier/dehumidifier system to keep the keys from sticking in the summer and keep the piano from going flat in winter. We will be having him back in a few weeks for the installation.

Repairs completed with skill and precision. Easy to talk to and a kind person. The second appointment was for a full tuning which was also completed in a normal amount of time, 1.5 hours, not 3-4 hours like some of the junior "tuners" in the area. It isn't worth it to save $20, just hire Mike and rest assured your piano is in the best hands!

Thank you for recommending the piano life saver system. I have filled it now a couple of times in two weeks. Its extremely dry here even in early autumn. I highly suggest you consider it if you have had issues with your piano's pitch falling shortly after it is tuned.

Fantastic work on the refinishing of a family heirloom piano. Instead of buying a new piano from a factory, consider having an older Canadian or American piano rebuilt by a master rebuilder. You may be surprised to see that the construction quality is higher than you can get now, and with the quality of rebuilding work done here it will play like new.

We have a high-end Bosendorfer grand that was previously looked after by the former Steinway dealer (if you know who I mean). Their staff seems to turn over regularly and as a result the tuning was never consistent. In contrast, Mike's work has been impeccable.

What a great experience. We were looking at several used pianos online. Once we narrowed it down to two, we hired Mike to perform an inspection on both. Although they both looked and sounded almost identical to us and our kids (both starting lessons), one turned out to be in need of action refurbishment and regulation. He saved our 40 year old Baldwin from needing a full rebuilding. Our piano was always flat, even just a few weeks after a tuning. We decided to try Mike, he was able to use new pins to restore the tension, and he installed a humidifier into the piano which helps the wood to stay moist. A+, 5 star rating!

The level of customer service here is outstanding. I purchased a piano tuning as a gift for my daughter. Ruttle piano coordinated with my son-in-law to perform the tuning while she was out of the house. We are all so happy with the result.

Ruttle piano tunes the piano at my building (Seniors Residence). Always prompt, polite and professional. They fixed the leg when it was loosened during a move between rooms, and set up the piano on a heavy-duty dolly so it can be moved without straining the frame or built-in casters.

I can’t say enough nice things about the piano tuning service we received. Mike was clearly skilled & knowledgeable and spent way more time tuning our piano than I expected. We had a key that wasn’t playing properly which he fixed quickly & then raised the pitch as it was very flat. It sounds nicer now than it has after any other tuning we had done. Plus he’s a super personable guy. I’ve had our piano tuned before & wasn’t sure what we paid for but this time I absolutely can tell the difference. Amazing!

We were in need of a new piano tuner, as our long time tuner had passed away. After a search of various piano services in Calgary, I settled on Ruttle Piano Works, both because of the useful detailed information on their website and because our piano (an upright grand Heinzman over 100 years old) needs special care. I made the appointment on line, and Mike Ruttle came to our home, right on time. He is pleasant, very knowledgeable, did a fine job tuning (including a pitch raise), and gave me much useful information about care for our piano. I am most impressed with Ruttle Piano Works, and highly recommend Mike Ruttle. Ruttle Piano Works will definitely be our "go to" service for all our future piano care needs.

This place is very underrated. Mike was very experienced and professional. 2 hrs of labour later, our piano is finally sounding like it’s supposed to ☺️☺️ I would strongly recommend.
